Italia, 1949. Adele (10) è orfana di madre. Dopo l’arresto del padre, viene accolta in casa degli zii Teresa e Vittorio. Sono benestanti e animati da ideali rivoluzionari: Teresa è una donna colta, in procinto di prendere la patente, e i loro due figli di 9 e 10 anni, frequentano regolarmente la scuola. Adele, invece, ha sempre lavorato per aiutare il padre e non sa né leggere né scrivere. La prima sera nella nuova casa è, per lei, un momento indimenticabile: in salone, un tecnico sta installando un telefono — uno dei primi modelli disponibili sul mercato. I tre cugini, incantati, si lanciano insieme alla scoperta di quell’incredibile oggetto…

Italy, 1949. Adele (10) has lost her mother. After her father is arrested, she is taken in by her aunt and uncle, Teresa and Vittorio — a well-off couple with progressive ideals. Teresa is an educated woman, about to get her driver’s license, and their two children, aged 9 and 10, attend school regularly. Adele, on the other hand, has always worked to help her father and never learned how to read or write.
